According to the official definition, it is customary today to call a youth a special social-age group of people, which, due to age, has a transitional status in society from childhood and adolescence to growing up and the acceptance of full social responsibility. As a rule, the lower age limit for young people is 14-16 years old, and the upper one is 25-30 years old or even more.
The scope of the official youth age varies from state to state. For example, the UN defines as youth only persons aged 15 to 24 years, and in the Russian Federation - from 14 to 30 years. At the same time, the "youth" status can play both a statistical role and give certain preferences in employment, purchase of housing, etc.
According to the UN, there are about 1.2 billion young people aged 15 to 24 in the world, which is 16% of the world's population. The needs of such a huge socio-age group cannot be ignored - today young people want fair, equal and progressive opportunities and solutions in their societies.
