A medical robot operator is a specialist who programs, configures and controls complex electronic devices and mechanisms that help doctors perform various medical procedures. For example, robots allow surgeons to perform complex operations with high precision and the lowest risk to the patient. Professionals operating robots must have not only medical education, but also programming skills and knowledge of digital technology.
Нow did this profession come about
The first medical robot appeared in the 80s of the last century. In 1984, in Canada, doctors first used the Arthrobot device in an operation to restore the hip joint - a robot drilled holes in the joint with high precision in order to then implant a prosthesis in it to replace the damaged bone tissue. And in 1985, the PUMA 200 robot was used to hold the needle during the most complex brain surgery.
In the 1990s, second generation robots were developed. Surgical complex "Da Vinci", equipped with a variety of cameras, sensors and instruments, is capable of performing a wide variety of operations. But just do not forget that no medical robot, even of the third generation, is capable of performing operations on its own - it is an obedient assistant to the one who controls it, and is not able to harm the patient.
Как помогают медицинские роботы?
Robot surgeon
Typically, the robot operator controls his assistant using a console (control panel), located next to the operating table. And the robot itself is placed over the patient. The cameras of the device transmit a three-dimensional and ultra-clear image of the operation site on the patient's body, and the surgeon sees this place as if on an HD TV, and uses special joysticks to control the robot's movements.
Robot nurse
During the operation, mechanical assistants are able to perform actions that were previously performed by the surgeon's assistants: transmit instruments on a voice command, perform aspiration (suction of excess fluids from body cavities), and put clamps. Thanks to such "nurses", the doctor's attention is not scattered, besides, the robot has so many opportunities for assistance that the time when the surgeon was surrounded by a crowd of assistants in white coats is gradually becoming a thing of the past.
Telesurgery
This is the latest and completely amazing technology - a doctor can be in one point of the world, and a patient in another. The surgeon performs the operation via video communication using robots that are near the patient. However, today, in telesurgery, the distance is super critical for the patient due to a fraction of a second delay in communication via the Internet. Therefore, it is still a question of the near future.
The American company that developed telesurgery, which became the basis of the DaVinchi robot, was unable to continue the development of this technology due to the resulting delays in the Internet connection. But time goes on, everything develops, and someday, of course, technical possibilities will come, in which it will be possible to perform surgical operations from a really great distance.
