How did this profession come about?

Since the middle of the 20th century, relations between countries, companies, people have become increasingly close and complex. Aviation and telephony made it possible to develop business and social connections around the world, and with the advent of the Internet and social media, these connections have expanded and become easier to establish. But at the same time, it became necessary to manage such a multitude of connections, processes and people, especially in government structures and large corporations. It took people who can explain the changes taking place right in front of everyone, the reaction to them in society, and also make a forecast for the future.

Who is a social engineer and why is he an engineer? A specialist in this field studies everything related to a person, his behavior, his successes and mistakes in the framework of a community. One of his tasks is to build, construct a system where people will behave in a certain way. Therefore, he is called an engineer, only unlike a builder of houses or engines, a sociologist "builds" connections in a specific group of people or creates theoretical social models that can then be used by various organizations.

To maintain stability in society, so that there are no crises and unrest, the standard of living of people is very important. The state with the help of economic and social measures is able to support it, but for this it needs social models. With the help of sociological research, you can get a complete picture of how people live, what needs they feel, what they lack. Everything is important: the subsistence minimum and the number of those who live at a socially comfortable level, urban or rural environment, education, the prevailing economy in the region, and a host of other indicators.

Social experiments

The social engineer takes into account many indicators, conducts analyzes and surveys. He can also organize and conduct social experiments, which is perhaps the most important part of his job. As an example - in Finland, unemployed people are paid just 560 euros a month. At the same time, even if they get a job, the benefit will remain the same. The challenge was to understand how this would affect their lives. The result showed that the group of people who received this unconditional income decreased the level of anxiety and fears for their fate - they calmly looked for an interesting and comfortable job for themselves, without falling into panic or nervousness. It is the job of a social engineer to come up with, plan, and implement such an experiment.

Business and management consulting

In the activities of business companies, it is very important to understand the motives and reasons for the behavior of employees - so that, on the one hand, the team works more efficiently, and on the other hand, so that employees are comfortable in relations with colleagues and with management. A social engineer can analyze the psychological profiles of team members and suggest the most effective model for building a team and building connections between its members.

The issue of safety is also of great importance. The social engineer acts here as an invisible observer - and sometimes even a provocateur. For example, at the request of the security service, such a specialist can check the loyalty of a manager by entering into correspondence with him on behalf of competitors. Or he analyzes the social networks of employees if they are suspicious for some reason.

Working with clients of business and government agencies

Social engineers also act as stealth wizards in customer service systems. For example, they work with negative reviews about products or services on forums and in company accounts, and in various ways try to convince disgruntled customers and change their minds.

When working with government agencies, sociologists also work online. They can create polls on "difficult topics" - for example, to find out the opinion of residents of a city district about the construction of new facilities, changes in infrastructure, etc. And also communicate with the population, trying in a mild form to convince them of the need for change or innovation.
